ABOUT

EU Films is Evangel’s production group of student-led films, all of which have been created in the Film Workshop class.  Some consider Film Workshop to be the heart of the Film major.  Currently on the 8th semester, Film Workshop has over these semesters, strived to expand and improve production quality and thematic ingenuity.  EU Films is focused on inspiring student filmmaking creativity while providing the opportunity for experience and growth.

Just over a decade ago, students creating a feature length film seemed like a very distant dream.  Communication Department Chair, Dr. Cameron Pace has pushed for adding film classes since 1994.  However, it took many years of development in order for the department and the school to create the formation of the class.  In the mid-90’s, Evangel’s Electronic Cinematography course was introduced to those with an interest in filmmaking. The first sound film shot by Evangel students was “The Light Meter” in 1998.  The first ECTV Night at the Movies was held in April 2000, featuring short films created in the cinematography course. From that point, Evangel University’s film department quickly grew to become one of the largest divisions of the Communication Department.

Dr. Pace’s vision of a Film Workshop class from a decade earlier, finally became reality in the Fall of 2006, titled as ECTV Pictures, a subdivision of ECTV.  In 2008, the Film Major was officially introduced (as separate from the Electronic Media Major), allowing students to finally take advantage of a primary focus in film studies.  By Fall 2009, the Film Workshop had produced 6 films each of a unique and different genre and cinematic style.  Independence was gained from ECTV allowing for a separate budget and the program was renamed to EU Films.

Dr. Cameron Pace PhD, Executive Producer/Professor, supervises the production of Film Workshop. Through his guidance, Evangel students use a semester to write, direct, and produce 45 to 60 minute films.  EU Films offers a stipend to executive film positions including producer, director, director of photography, and chief editor.  Film Workshop has been built up to have multiple resources to draw from such as the EU Films semester budget, and new equipment purchased specifically for the workshop, including the new Sony EX1 camera, which shoots 1080p 24fps.

Although a new program, Film Workshop groups have worked hard to increase the ingenuity and creativity each semester.  Seeing this extensive level of effort and growth of the program proves bright horizons for the future of EU Films.
